InterDigital Wins Brazil Injunction Blocking Transsion 5G Sales

InterDigital

WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) recently secured a preliminary injunction in Brazil against Transsion following a court ruling that found infringement of two 5G patents.

The 3rd Regional Business Court of Rio de Janeiro ruled that InterDigital is entitled to the injunction and determined that its licensing offer to Transsion met fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms, according to the company.

As a result of the ruling, Transsion is prohibited from selling 5G-compliant devices in Brazil.

The decision follows an independent expert report commissioned by the court, which found that Transsion infringed both patents and that the patents are essential to 5G technology, the company said.

“Transsion should pay fair value for technology that it uses every day and cannot be allowed to gain an unfair advantage over so many of its competitors who have paid for a license to our portfolio,” said Josh Schmidt, chief legal officer at InterDigital.

InterDigital develops and licenses technologies used in wireless communications, video, and artificial intelligence, including systems supporting 5G networks and devices.
