PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia International Airport set a Guinness World Record on Tuesday, March 24, for the “Longest Line of Cheesesteaks,” assembling 1,291 sandwiches across the concourse between Terminals B and C to mark National Cheesesteak Day, airport officials said.

The display stretched more than three football fields and used 990 pounds of shaved ribeye, 225 pounds of cheese sauce and more than 1,200 rolls, according to the Department of Aviation.

The effort was organized by PHL Food & Shops concessionaires in partnership with the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation and verified by Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric.

Officials said the record represents a newly created category by Guinness World Records.

Ingredients were supplied by local companies, including Amoroso’s Baking Company for rolls, Cooper Sharp for cheese sauce and Philly’s Best Steak Company for beef.

Chickie’s & Pete’s provided kitchen equipment and preparation space, while Pepsi served as the beverage partner for Cheesesteak Week at the airport.

After the record was confirmed, the cheesesteaks were distributed to passengers, participants and guests.

Kate Sullivan, chief commercial officer for the Department of Aviation, said the event reflects a broader year of major events in the city.

“Cooking and assembling the longest line of cheesesteaks ever will be among many historic moments in Philadelphia this year,” Sullivan said.

The airport said more than 100 workers from multiple restaurant operators, suppliers and airport staff participated in the effort.
