FOREST GROVE, PA — VintageComputerRental.com has added two computer museums to its affiliate network to expand access to vintage technology for film and media productions, the company announced.
The new affiliates are the Vintage Computer Federation Museum at the InfoAge Science Center in Wall, New Jersey, and the Computer Museum @ System Source in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
The additions increase availability of historical computing equipment, including mainframes, supercomputers, servers, workstations, terminals, and personal computers dating from the 1970s through the early 2000s.
VintageComputerRental.com said many of the systems remain operational and are maintained for production use to support historical accuracy in film, television, and other media projects.
The company’s affiliate network includes collectors and institutions across North America that provide equipment and technical support for productions, exhibitions, and educational programming.
Darren Hill, founder of VintageComputerRental.com, said the addition of the two museums expands access to historically significant systems supported by subject-matter experts.
Bob Roswell, curator of the System Source museum, said the partnership allows machines from the collection to be used in media productions.
Jeffrey Brace, vice president and chairman of the Vintage Computer Federation, said the affiliation provides additional opportunities to showcase computing history through media projects.
The company also provides on-site technical support and consulting services to assist productions in accurately depicting historical computing environments.
As part of the announcement, the company said Hill and Vintage Computer Federation Treasurer Corey Cohen will appear at the VCF East Festival from April 17 through April 19 in Wall, New Jersey, where they will demonstrate an Apple-1 computer.
