Man Accused of Threatening Students Near Claymont School

CLAYMONT, DE — A Claymont man is accused of threatening two students with a firearm near an elementary school Wednesday morning, state police said.

According to the Delaware State Police, the incident occurred on April 1, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m. near Claymont Elementary School, located at 3401 Green Street.

Police reported that a red Nissan sedan, driven by a man wearing a face covering, arrived at the school shortly before the start of the school day. A female passenger exited the vehicle to escort students into the building while the driver parked nearby on Green Street.

Investigators said that while waiting in the vehicle, the driver allegedly engaged in a verbal exchange with two students who approached him. During the encounter, police said the driver allegedly displayed what the students believed to be a handgun and threatened to shoot them.

According to police, the students ran from the area and reported the incident to school staff, who contacted 9-1-1 and alerted the school’s constable. Staff members approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, who left prior to police arrival.

Through the investigation, detectives identified the driver as 31-year-old Anthony Dejesus of Claymont and determined he is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior domestic violence-related misdemeanor conviction, police said.

Police reported that Dejesus later responded to Troop 2, where he was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, aggravated menacing, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and terroristic threatening.

Authorities said Dejesus was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $41,000 cash bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
