KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Free coffee, free t-shirts, and a morning full of community celebration are on tap as Wawa prepares to open its newest location in Kennett Square this Thursday.
The popular convenience retailer will officially open its doors at 806 Baltimore Pike on April 9, kicking off the day with a lively Grand Opening Party that invites neighbors to be among the first to step inside.
The celebration begins just before sunrise, as Wawa General Manager Daniel Deans leads a countdown to the store’s first official opening at 8:00 a.m. Early arrivals will be rewarded with free “Wawa Grand Opening Tour” t-shirts for the first 100 customers, while everyone can enjoy free any-size hot coffee through April 12.
Moments later, at 8:30 a.m., the festivities continue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that blends Wawa’s long history with its commitment to local communities. A highlight of the morning will be the “Hoagies for Heroes” competition, where first responders go head-to-head in a hoagie-building challenge to support local charities.
Beyond the giveaways and excitement, the new store represents a meaningful investment in Kennett Square. Wawa officials say each new location brings jobs and economic activity, with an average of 35 employees hired per store and significant collaboration with local contractors during construction.
“As our nation celebrates its 250th birthday in 2026, we’re proud to be a company with more than 200 years in American business,” said Wawa President Brian Schaller. “Our ongoing growth allows us to invest in and provide meaningful support to more communities and create new opportunities.”
The Kennett Square opening is part of Wawa’s larger 2026 expansion, which includes nearly 100 new stores across 14 states. Each stop on the company’s Grand Opening Tour is designed to celebrate local communities while building new connections with residents.
