Wilmington Man Charged with Burglary After Alarm Call

WILMINGTON, DE — A 36-year-old man has been charged following a reported burglary early Wednesday morning in Wilmington.

According to Wilmington Police, at approximately 6:16 a.m. on February 18, a member of the K-9 unit responded to the 200 block of North Jackson Street for an alarm call. Upon arrival, the officer observed an unsecured window at the property, police said.

Authorities stated the officer conducted a property check and located a man inside the building. Police identified the individual as Blake Smith, 36, and said he was taken into custody without incident.

Smith has been charged with third-degree burglary, according to police.

Police said Smith was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $3,000 secured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
