WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) said a German court has granted the company an injunction against The Walt Disney Co. over alleged infringement of a patent related to HEVC video compression technology.
The Munich Regional Court ruled that InterDigital is entitled to an injunction based on Disney’s use of the patented technology, the company announced. Disney has the right to appeal the decision.
InterDigital said the ruling marks the fifth injunction it has received against Disney in disputes over intellectual property. The company stated that previous injunctions were issued by courts in Germany and Brazil concerning patents related to high dynamic range technology, dynamic video stream overlay technology and additional HEVC and AVC compression technologies.
Josh Schmidt, InterDigital’s chief legal officer, said the latest decision adds to prior rulings involving the companies’ patent dispute.
InterDigital, headquartered in Wilmington, conducts research and development in wireless, video and artificial intelligence technologies and licenses its intellectual property globally.
