KENNETT SQUARE, PA — When the sun goes down this winter, Longwood Gardens is turning up the light.
Garden Glow, a luminous after-hours experience, is transforming the Gardens into a shimmering landscape where blooms glisten, shadows dance, and art and horticulture meet in spectacular fashion. On view Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings through March 8, the immersive event invites guests to see Longwood in an entirely new way — under the stars.
Inside the Conservatory Music Room, Seeking Light: Bonsai Illuminated features eight yamadori Shimpaku junipers — some between 150 and 380 years old — glowing beneath blacklight, their intricate forms revealed in dramatic contrast. In the West Conservatory, award-winning floral designer Jennifer Reed’s Suspended Dreamscape stretches 100 feet overhead, weaving botanical elements with 500 yards of flowing voile fabric to create a dreamlike canopy.
Outdoors, the Main Fountain Garden becomes the stage for SPARK by Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde of Studio Roosegaarde. Thousands of biodegradable sparks float gracefully skyward, creating a quiet, magical moment in the night air. (SPARK is on view from 7 to 10 p.m., weather permitting.)
Throughout the evening, illuminated displays in the Radiant Conservatories create a continuous after-dark journey, celebrating both artistry and the beauty of winter horticulture.
Guests can also extend the experience with dinner at 1906, Longwood’s signature restaurant, which offers limited evening reservations and a special prix-fixe menu on Garden Glow weekends.
