Elite Educators Vie for Simulation’s Biggest Honors as EMS Names 2026 Nominees

Education Management Solutions (EMS)

WAYNE, PAEducation Management Solutions has unveiled the nominees for its 17th Annual Excellence in Clinical Simulation Awards, spotlighting a national roster of educators and innovators who are reshaping how future healthcare professionals are trained.

The awards recognize leaders who use advanced simulation to improve clinical education, from hands-on patient scenarios to high-tech virtual environments. EMS said this year’s nominees reflect the rapid evolution of simulation as a core pillar of modern medical and nursing education.

“We’re proud to celebrate the educators, innovators, and program leaders who are raising the bar for what simulation can achieve,” said Louis Faustini, chief executive of EMS. “This year’s nominees embody the creativity, commitment, and passion that drive our industry forward. Their work not only transforms learning environments, but ultimately elevates the quality of patient care.”

The Pioneer Award, which honors individuals pushing the boundaries of simulation-based training, includes Becky Anglin of Rocky Vista University, Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine, Les Barta of Rutgers Health’s Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, and Annette Davis of Florida International University.

The Advocate Award, recognizing those who champion simulation as a learning tool, features Johanna Derrenbacker of the Central Virginia Center for Simulation and Virtual Learning, Rachel True of Samuel Merritt University, and a team from Prisma Health Simulation Center in Greenville led by Kara Templeton, Emily Pritchard, Henry Moulder, and Maria Shane.

The Champion Award, reserved for leaders advancing state-of-the-art simulation technology, includes Joy Flicker of Alvernia University’s John and Karen Arnold School of Nursing, Kate Lindley of Rasmussen University, and Maria E. Vazquez-Amaral of Roseman University of Health Sciences College of Medicine.

Winners will be announced at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare in San Antonio, Texas, a global gathering that brings together educators, clinicians, and technology developers focused on improving patient safety and clinical outcomes through immersive training.

For EMS, the awards serve both as recognition and as a statement about the future of healthcare education. As hospitals and schools confront staffing shortages, rising costs, and more complex patient needs, simulation is increasingly seen as a way to train clinicians faster, safer, and more effectively. By elevating the field’s top performers, EMS is signaling that the next generation of patient care will be shaped not just in hospitals, but in the simulated worlds where clinicians learn to save lives before they ever touch a real patient.
