WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating an alleged shots-fired incident on Interstate 95 after a motorist later discovered damage to a vehicle believed to be caused by gunfire.
According to state police, troopers were notified on Friday, December 27, of a vehicle that had sustained damage consistent with being struck by a bullet. The preliminary investigation determined the incident likely occurred the previous evening, December 26, at approximately 9:30 p.m., while the driver was traveling southbound on I-95 near the Shipley Road area.
Police said the driver reported hearing a loud noise while driving but initially attributed it to poor weather conditions at the time. Authorities noted there was significant weather in the area, which may have limited visibility and awareness of the damage. It was not until the driver reached their destination that the damage to the vehicle was discovered, prompting a call to police.
Local law enforcement responded and observed damage and physical evidence that investigators said was consistent with the vehicle having been struck by gunfire. The driver was not injured during the incident, and no additional vehicles were reported damaged.
At this stage of the investigation, police said no suspect information is available, and it remains unclear where the shots may have originated or whether the vehicle was specifically targeted.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation involves alleged criminal activity. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
