LANCASTER, PASight & Sound is expanding its footprint beyond the stage and into theaters nationwide, unveiling the first teaser trailer and poster for A GREAT AWAKENING, a historical drama set to open in movie theaters on April 3, 2026, as the United States marks its 250th anniversary.

Released in partnership with Roadside Attractions, the film represents the next phase of Sight & Sound’s growing film initiative following the commercial success of I HEARD THE BELLS in 2022 and NOAH—Live!, which debuted in the top 10 earlier this year. The Lancaster-based production company, long known for large-scale faith-centered stage productions, is positioning the new release as both a cultural and historical statement timed to a milestone moment in American history.

A GREAT AWAKENING centers on the period preceding the American Revolution, focusing on the religious revival known as the Great Awakening and its influence on the emerging identity of the colonies. The film highlights the role of George Whitefield, a charismatic preacher whose sermons drew massive crowds across class and regional lines, and explores his unlikely friendship with Benjamin Franklin, a relationship that bridged faith, reason, and early American ideals.

Joshua Enck, director of the film and Sight & Sound’s president and chief story officer, said the project aims to remind audiences that the roots of American independence were shaped not only by political theory and armed resistance, but also by a powerful spiritual movement that unified communities before the first shots were fired.

The release continues Sight & Sound’s strategy of translating its immersive storytelling into shared cinematic experiences, broadening its audience beyond its theaters in Pennsylvania and Missouri. By aligning the film’s debut with the nation’s semiquincentennial, the company is tying its creative ambitions to a broader national conversation about liberty, identity, and the forces that shaped the country’s founding.

With A GREAT AWAKENING, Sight & Sound is signaling that its future extends well beyond live productions, betting that historically rooted, faith-driven stories can find a sustained audience in the competitive theatrical market.
