HARRISBURG, PA — A Tioga County man has been sentenced to eight to 20 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child he knew and was trusted by, Attorney General Dave Sunday announced.
Philip McCormick, 39, of Blossburg, previously pleaded guilty to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child less than 16 years old, unlawful contact with a minor, and aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 16. As part of the sentence, McCormick is required to register as a Megan’s Law offender for the rest of his life.
Investigators said the abuse began when the victim was 13 years old and continued for roughly two years. Authorities stated McCormick was closely acquainted with the child and used that relationship to gain access and exploit her. The assaults came to light after the victim disclosed what had occurred to her mother.
Sunday said the crimes inflicted lasting harm on a child who believed McCormick to be a trustworthy adult, adding that his office remains committed to holding child predators accountable and advocating for victims of abuse.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Rachael Coleman and Deputy Attorney General Andrew Biggins.
