PHILADELPHIA, PA — East Passyunk Avenue is preparing for a surge of foot traffic as the 4th Annual Passyunk Ave. Hot Chocolate Crawl returns December 13, offering a full day of specialty drinks, retail promotions, and live entertainment across one of Philadelphia’s busiest commercial corridors.
Running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the event brings together more than 15 restaurants, bars, cafés, and dessert shops featuring classic, premium, boozy, and ice cream–infused hot chocolates priced from $3 to $8. A $12 ticket includes a souvenir mug and access to event-only pricing, a format organizers say has helped turn the crawl into one of South Philadelphia’s most popular holiday traditions.
Local shops will join in with sales, samples, and themed promotions, while performers from the East Passyunk Opera Project provide live music throughout the day. Organizers say the crawl has grown steadily since launching in 2022, routinely selling out and drawing families, neighbors, and visitors to the retail district.
Participating eateries include Milk Jawn, P’unk Burger, Pistolas Del Sur, Ground Up Café, Juana Tamale, and more, offering everything from Nutella hot chocolate to tequila-infused Mexican cocoa. Several retailers — including August Moon Boutique, Sawubona Creativity Project, N.R.S Boutique, and Headhunters Hair Design — will offer discounts, giveaways, and holiday-themed experiences.
The crawl also ties into broader neighborhood holiday programming. Nice Things Handmade will host its 15th Annual Ornament Show, and attendees are encouraged to visit the nearby Miracle on South 13th Street holiday light display after the event.
The crawl is organized by Capri Dessecker and Elissa Kara of Nice Things Handmade, with support from RE/MAX One Realty, Milk Jawn, CENTURY 21 Forrester Real Estate, Ground Up Café, DaVinci & Yu, and other community partners. Organizers said this year’s expanded mug inventory is aimed at meeting growing demand.
