PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers using the Schuylkill Expressway should brace for major delays next weekend as PennDOT prepares to shut down a key ramp from Interstate 76 West to Lincoln Drive and Kelly Drive for concrete demolition, roadway repairs and guiderail installation.
The closure is part of a $41.3 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of I-76, its ramps, and more than 20 bridges across Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township.
PennDOT said the ramp from westbound I-76 to Lincoln Drive/Kelly Drive (Exit 340A) will be closed from 8:00 PM Friday, December 5, until 5:00 AM Monday, December 8. During the shutdown, motorists will be directed to remain on I-76 West, exit at Gladwyne (Exit 337), turn left onto Hollow Road, then left again to enter I-76 East and loop back to access the Lincoln Drive/Kelly Drive ramp.
The agency is urging drivers to expect heavy congestion and allow additional travel time throughout the weekend. All work is weather dependent.
