Overnight and Daytime Lane Closures Scheduled for I-83 and I-78 Maintenance

Traffic Alert

BERKS COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that digital message board maintenance will require temporary lane closures on sections of Interstate 83 in York County and Interstate 78 in Berks County over the coming weeks.

Weather permitting, crews will work on northbound I-83 just north of Exit 36 (Fishing Creek) in York County from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 29. Additional maintenance will take place overnight on westbound I-78, just west of Exit 10 (Route 645/Frystown) in Berks County, from 9:00 PM Wednesday, November 12, through 6:00 AM Thursday morning.

A right lane and shoulder closure will be in place during the maintenance periods at both sites. PennDOT urges motorists to remain alert, reduce speed, and use caution when approaching or traveling through the work zones.

The scheduled work is part of a multi-district project to maintain and repair Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment throughout PennDOT’s Districts 4, 5, and 8, which oversee highway infrastructure across eastern and southcentral Pennsylvania.

Kuharchik Construction, Inc., of Exeter, Pennsylvania, is the contractor for the $5.6 million project, which is expected to be completed by July 2027.
