Apache DevLake and Apache Grails Advance to Top-Level Project Status at The Apache Software Foundation

The Apache Software Foundation

WILMINGTON, DEThe Apache Software Foundation (ASF) announced that two open-source initiatives, Apache DevLake™ and Apache Grails®, have graduated to become Top-Level Projects (TLPs), marking a major milestone in their development and community growth.

Apache DevLake, launched in December 2021, is an open-source development data platform designed to integrate, analyze, and visualize fragmented DevOps data. By unifying metrics from various tools, DevLake enables software teams to generate actionable insights for improving workflow efficiency and decision-making.

Apache Grails, a web application framework built on Apache Groovy and Spring Boot for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), celebrates its 20th anniversary with renewed momentum. Having undergone revitalization during its incubation period, Grails is now positioned for further expansion under ASF stewardship.

“Becoming an ASF Top-Level Project signals the beginning of a new chapter for Apache Grails,” said James Fredley, Apache Grails PMC Chair. “With ASF’s support and a thriving contributor community, we look forward to broadening adoption and advancing the project’s capabilities.”

The ASF’s governance framework emphasizes community-led development and sustainability. Through the Apache Incubator, new projects—known as podlings—receive mentorship, technical guidance, and community-building support to ensure long-term success under The Apache Way.

With their elevation to Top-Level Projects, both Apache DevLake and Apache Grails will now operate with full oversight and independence within the ASF, continuing to advance innovation in software development and open-source collaboration.
