PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — The National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) has introduced a groundbreaking resource for healthcare professionals, NCCN Guidelines in Practice™. This new subscription-based continuing education (CE) tool is designed to integrate education into daily clinical practice, enabling oncology care providers to stay current with the latest evidence-based recommendations while earning required CE and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credits.
The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) are regarded as the gold standard for clinical guidance and cancer policy in the United States, with 88 sets of recommendations covering nearly every type of cancer, along with prevention, screening, supportive care, and more. Frequent updates to the guidelines ensure healthcare professionals have access to the latest, most comprehensive information available in any area of medicine.
The NCCN Guidelines in Practice™ allows users to document every instance they access the guidelines while making care decisions for their patients. This frequently utilized activity, performed over 16 million times in 2024, will now seamlessly provide CE credit. Physicians can earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, while physician associates, nurse practitioners, and nurses can receive contact hours. Other oncology care team members can obtain certificates of participation.
“As a board-certified, practicing oncologist myself, it’s hard to express just how exciting this is,” said Crystal S. Denlinger, MD, Chief Executive Officer, NCCN. “The NCCN Guidelines in Practice put education where we need it most—at the point-of-care. This will help busy clinicians stay current on cutting-edge cancer care, particularly for some of the rarer cancer types. What’s more, learning and credit for this continuing education exercise is immediate. As soon as a guideline update is published, people can earn continuing education credit for accessing the latest information.”
This innovative tool aims to address the challenges posed by clinicians’ heavy workloads by integrating education directly into their daily activities. For those who require deeper insights or prefer interactive opportunities, NCCN also hosts annual conferences and congresses focused on specific cancer types, which include in-person networking as well as virtual and on-demand CE access.
“We recognize that there are providers who specialize in other areas of medicine who use the NCCN Guidelines to learn about oncology updates as well, such as primary care physicians or pediatricians,” said Kristin Kline Hasson, Senior Director of Continuing Education, NCCN. “The NCCN Guidelines in Practice makes it easy for everyone to access the information they need while maintaining their required certifications, without adding to an already heavy workload.”
By combining education with point-of-care decision-making, NCCN Guidelines in Practice™ equips healthcare professionals with the tools they need to advance their expertise and improve outcomes for patients with cancer. This initiative reinforces NCCN’s commitment to fostering high-quality, guideline-concordant care nationwide.
