PHILADELPHIA, PA — Courtyard by Marriott® Philadelphia Downtown has entered a new chapter, completing a property-wide transformation that marries modern comfort with historical charm. Following an extensive renovation, the hotel reintroduces itself with reimagined guestrooms, amenities, and public spaces, all while paying homage to the building’s storied architectural heritage.
“This transformation is more than a renovation—it’s a reimagination and reintroduction,” said Jen Paro, General Manager of Courtyard Philadelphia Downtown. “We’re proud to be part of the next chapter of this historic space and create a destination where guests can truly feel the hospitality and heartbeat of Center City.”
Once the Le Meridien Philadelphia, the 202-room hotel occupies a Georgian Revival-style landmark originally designed in 1912 by renowned Gilded Age architect Horace Trumbauer. Located steps away from City Hall and the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the property offers unparalleled access to Center City’s vibrant cultural, commercial, and culinary attractions. Features such as oak-paneled walls, grand stone fireplaces, and fluted columns have been preserved to honor its history as a YMCA and later a government office building.
Modern touches are seamlessly integrated throughout. The newly launched Bauer Restaurant & Bar welcomes diners with New American cuisine and warm hospitality set under elegant carved-wood arches. Guests can also enjoy The Founder’s Room, an intimate dining space for private events or executive gatherings. With nine event rooms, including the 2,352-square-foot Trumbauer Ballroom and Abele Library, the hotel provides 9,165 square feet of flexible meeting space equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, digital check-in, and other contemporary conveniences.
“Our vision was to bring Courtyard’s signature modern hospitality to a building that represents Philadelphia’s architectural soul,” said representatives from The Gettys Group, the design firm behind the renovation. “We leaned into three key design pillars—Inspired Classic, Metro Afterglow, and Georgian Revival—to create a welcoming environment that honors the past while embracing the present.”
Additional amenities include a 24-hour fitness center with Peloton bikes, a pet-friendly approach to hospitality, and a convenient on-site market for snacks and essentials. Rooms range from 300 to 325 square feet for standard guestrooms to 525 square feet for suites, including a two-bedroom family suite and options for multi-room configurations.
Perfectly positioned within walking distance to Rittenhouse and Logan Squares, and a short ride to Philadelphia’s Historic District, Courtyard Philadelphia Downtown provides comfort and connectivity to business travelers, convention attendees, and weekend visitors alike. With its blend of timeless architecture and modern amenities, the hotel offers a unique experience in the heart of the city.
