PHILADELPHIA, PA — GLOBO Language Solutions has introduced its groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI) interpreter, GLOBO KAI™, designed to enhance communication between healthcare providers and limited English proficiency (LEP) patients. The app, now available through the GLOBO Connect platform, offers on-demand AI-powered linguistic support in over 20 languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Portuguese-Brazilian, with plans to expand its language portfolio.
The AI interpreter addresses critical communication challenges in healthcare by providing instant access to language support during patient interactions, especially in non-clinical and administrative settings. Results from a 2025 pilot program highlighted the app’s effectiveness at reducing wait times and streamlining processes like patient registration and pharmacy visits.
“We found that it was really beneficial for our front desk staff, who were previously struggling to efficiently connect patients with interpreters,” said Jennifer Winters, assistant vice president of Value Based Care at Affinia Healthcare, one of the pilot sites. “With the AI interpreter app, we could direct patients through registration, pharmacy, and back to Convenient Care much faster.”
The financial implications of high-quality AI interpretation are also significant. Reducing reliance on traditional interpreter services and increasing language accessibility could result in substantial cost savings, with estimates suggesting AI could help save the healthcare industry 5-10%, or approximately $360 billion annually.
“Reducing healthcare expenses is a national priority, especially for federally funded programs,” said Dipak Patel, CEO of GLOBO. “New AI innovations like GLOBO KAI present a promising path forward to improve cost efficiency and sustainability, while vastly improving patient engagement and overall care.”
KAI also aims to close care gaps for LEP patients. Research shows that language barriers contribute to poorer health outcomes, including extended hospital stays, higher readmission rates, and increased errors. By pairing AI with in-person, telephone, and video interpreting solutions, GLOBO seeks to deliver culturally and linguistically accurate communication to improve patient safety and satisfaction.
The 2025 pilot program evaluated KAI’s performance across multiple health systems, including Affinia Healthcare and other providers in Illinois, Michigan, and Louisiana. Findings demonstrated improved patient and clinician satisfaction, as well as greater engagement across the healthcare experience for LEP patients.
“AI interpretation is a proven, viable option to improve engagement across the LEP patient’s healthcare journey,” Patel added. “Our solution effectively demonstrated how mobile AI interpreting can reduce language barriers, foster stronger patient-clinician relationships, and ultimately lower language services costs.”
With GLOBO KAI™, healthcare providers now have a powerful tool to bridge communication gaps, support equitable care, and deliver better outcomes for LEP patients.
