The event is open to the public—come learn how amateur radio works when other communication systems go down!
Come see Chester County ham radio operators from the 985 Repeater Group answer this question as they demonstrate emergency preparedness all off-grid! Communications will include normal voice as well as Morse Code, digital, and even satellite!
The public is welcome to visit, participate, and actually get on the air with the operators!
We take our cell phones and the electrical grid for granted – because they always seem to be there. Until they’re not! Just ask those affected by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina when ALL normal communications channels were destroyed. Amateur Radio (known as Ham Radio) filled that huge communications void, saved lives, and protected property.
Because ham radio can operate without the internet, phone systems, and the electric power grid, it is often called upon to provide vital communications during natural and manmade disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and wildfires. When all other communications methods fail, ham radio prevails.
Many prominent Americans, including astronauts, musicians, and Hollywood stars, are licensed ham radio operators.
Field Day is an annual nationwide event founded and sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) – the National Association for Amateur Radio.
