PHILADELPHIA, PA — Naim-Shahid Jumah Austin, 28, of Yeadon, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 144 months in prison and five years of supervised release following his guilty plea to a series of armed hotel robberies during late 2022. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Judge Cynthia M. Rufe on Monday, April 7.

Austin, who pleaded guilty in December 2022, admitted to six counts of Hobbs Act robbery and firearms offenses. Court filings detail his spree of armed robberies across Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties, where he targeted hotel front desks in the early morning hours. Armed with a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol, Austin demanded cash from lone employees and, in one instance, robbed a hotel guest.

Austin was apprehended by West Goshen Township Police shortly after the final robbery.

“Naim Austin was on a one-man crime spree, committing six armed robberies in less than three months,” said U.S. Attorney David Metcalf. “This sentence keeps him off the street and holds him accountable for what he’s done. My office and our partners are committed to making our communities safer by bringing violent offenders like this to justice.”
