Middle School Student Arrested for Alleged Assault at a New Castle School

NEW CASTLE, DE — A 12-year-old student from George Read Middle School in New Castle, Delaware, was arrested following allegations of a felony assault that occurred on school premises.

The incident, which took place on February 5, 2024, was reported to the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Youth Aid Detectives at approximately 1:35 p.m. The detectives’ investigation revealed that the accused student allegedly used a box cutter she had brought from home to assault an 11-year-old classmate. Teachers promptly removed the accused from the classroom.

Following the incident, the victim’s parent transported him to a local hospital where he received treatment for a facial injury.

On February 7, 2024, the accused student voluntarily turned herself in at Troop 2. She faced charges of second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon – all felonies. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and later released to a guardian on an $8,000 unsecured bond.
