VALLEY FORGE, PA — The Washington Memorial Heritage and David Cross of Indispensable Leadership (LLC) have announced that the May session of the Leadership Forum will feature renowned historian and author William (Larry) Kidder. This special event will be held at the Washington Memorial Chapel in Patriots Hall on Thursday, May 11 at 6 PM with refreshments prior to the start at 6:30 PM.
During the lecture, Kidder will discuss his latest book The Revolutionary World of a Free Black Man: Jacob Francis, 1754-1836, which chronicles the story of Jacob Francis, who was an indentured servant living in New Jersey, New York, the West Indies, and Salem, Massachusetts. He became free on his 21st birthday, in 1775, and overcame resistance to Black enlistment in the Continental Army, joining the Massachusetts regiment that fought in the siege of Boston and in the battles of New York and Trenton. Francis’ story reveals the many obstacles encountered by free Black people during the time of slavery and gradual abolition in New Jersey.
The Washington Memorial Heritage Leadership Forum Series is a History/Leadership and Author Events Program at the Washington Memorial Chapel. Drawing upon America’s Revolutionary history, the program examines the challenges and decisions faced by the country’s Founders. Analyzing their experiences, the program provides lessons which help attendees in their business and personal life.
The price will be $20 per person per session which can be paid at the door; students with proof of student status will be admitted free.
