WEST CHESTER, PA — The YMCA of Greater Brandywine’s gymnastics team, the GYMCATS, is competing at the YMCA National Gymnastics Championship meet in Toledo, Ohio, which began June 22 and runs through June 26.

“We are excited for our athletes to get the opportunity to showcase their talent and hard work at the highest level in YMCA gymnastics. They had a fantastic showing at the Pennsylvania state gymnastics meet and we’re looking forward to more great competition,” says Megan Hartman, gymnastics director.

More than 4,000 gymnasts, coaches and spectators will be present at the national meet. The Oscar Lasko YMCA gymnastics’ team, the GYMCATs, will have 35 athletes competing in the All-Around (vault, beam, floor and bars). The GYMCATS is a competitive gymnastics team where members can develop their skills and abilities while competing in meets. Recreational and preschool programs are also available.

“The national championship meet has been held since 1938 and it is such a great tradition among YMCA gymnastics program,” said Hartman. “We have seven seniors who graduated this year and this will be the final meet of their gymnastics career with the GYMCATS. We’re looking at this competition as a celebration of all they have accomplished with the program.”
