Downingtown Earns Pop Warner National Championship

ORLANDO, FL — The Downingtown Young Whippets jumped out to an early lead and then held on to beat Satellite Beach (FL), 25-20, in the 64th annual Pop Warner Super Bowl at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium on Friday.

The Whippets scored with 4:17 left in the 1Q with a 45 yard run; a 27 yard run with 8:07 in the second quarter; a 2 yard plunged with :03 left in the half; and a 43 yard run with 6:37 left in the third.  Downingtown was the Pop Warner program of current Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan.

Two other area teams lost in the championship game. Richboro’s Northampton Indians lost to Palm Beach Gardens (FL), 34-0, in the Division 2 10U bracket and 38-12 to Fort Pierce (FL) in the 14U bracket.
