Significant Winter Storm, 3 to 7 Inches Possible for Chester County

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Chester County from Thursday, February 18, at 4:00 am until Friday, February 19, at 1:00 pm.

The forecast is calling for heavy mixed precipitation, with total snow and sleet accumulations of 3 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch possible, occurring from late Wednesday night through Friday afternoon.

Precipitation in Chester County will begin as snow Thursday morning, with the heaviest snowfall expected Thursday morning into early Thursday afternoon. Sleet and/or freezing rain will then mix in Thursday evening into Thursday night. Light wintry precipitation may continue into the daytime hours on Friday.

Travel could be very difficult and the hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow after 2 am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 23. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm. The chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday: Snow before 2 pm, then snow and sleet. High near 30. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Thursday Night: Snow and sleet before 8 pm, then sleet between 8 pm and 11 pm, then freezing rain and sleet after 11 pm. Low around 29. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.

Friday: Sleet before 11 am, then a chance of snow between 11 am and 2 pm, then a chance of rain and snow after 2 pm. High near 38. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
