Freezing Rain Expected to Impact Chester County

CHESTER COUNTY, PA —  The National Weather Service is forecasting, with high confidence, significant ice impacts across Chester County for today through Tuesday morning.

An Ice Storm Warning is now in effect for Chester County and the surrounding areas. A wintry mix is expected to develop this morning before changing to freezing rain Monday afternoon and Monday night. The freezing rain will continue into Tuesday morning, changing to plain rain Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service states that significant icing is likely, and will result in extremely difficult travel conditions, as well as damage to trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible.

In Chester County, travel conditions will be difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

Detailed Forecast

Today: A slight chance of sleet before 7 am, then a chance of freezing rain. Cloudy, with a high near 32. Northeast wind around 5 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Tonight: Freezing rain before 2 am, then rain or freezing rain between 2 am and 3 am, then rain after 3 am. Low around 31. East wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.

Tuesday: A chance of rain, mainly before 2 pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 43. North wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west in the morning. The chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow after 4 am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. The chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday: Snow before noon, then snow and sleet between noon and 5 pm, then snow, freezing rain, and sleet after 5 pm. High near 36. The chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thursday Night: Rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after 7 pm. Low around 33. The chance of precipitation is 90%.

Friday: A chance of rain before 5 pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. The chance of precipitation is 50%.

Friday Night: A chance of snow. Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. The chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 17.
