State Continues to Monitor Forecast of Heavy Rains, Flash Flooding

Heavy Rains, Flash Flooding

HARRISBURG, PA – Governor Tom Wolf stated that state agencies continue to monitor the forecast for scattered strong storms that could bring significant amounts of rain and flooding in isolated areas across southcentral, northcentral, and eastern Pennsylvania through late Wednesday.

“The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and local emergency management agencies are in constant contact and keeping me apprised of the consequences of the heavy rain, such as flash flooding and road closures,” Gov. Wolf. “Safety is always my number one goal and state and local emergency officials are doing all that they can to ensure Pennsylvanians are informed, aware, and safe.”

Specifically, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is working with Schuylkill County officials in response to a request for four high clearance vehicles to assist with flooding in the county. Personnel with the PA Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team are on ready status for the next 36-48 hours. The teams are based in Johnstown and Ft. Indiantown Gap.

Pennsylvanians are encouraged to follow ReadyPA on Twitter @ReadyPA and Facebook for the latest on the weather and how to prepare, and motorists can check road conditions on over 40,000 miles of roadway at 511PA.com.

PennDOT cautions motorists to remember to never drive through flooded roadways, as it takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car. Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.
