Roadway Improvement Project to Cause Lane Closures on U.S. 322 and Route 82 in Chester County

Travel Restrictions

WEST BRANDYWINE TWP, PA — Motorists navigating through West Brandywine Township in Chester County should brace for potential delays as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) embarks on a significant roadway improvement project next week. The initiative, aimed at enhancing travel and safety on U.S. 322 (Horseshoe Pike) and Route 82 (Manor Road), is set to introduce lane closures that could impact daily commutes.

Starting Monday, April 1, and continuing through Friday, May 31, drivers will encounter weekday lane closures from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning. These restrictions will affect U.S. 322 between Hibernia Road and Icedale Road, as well as Route 82 between Hibernia Road and Tomahawk Lane. Given the extensive duration and timing of these closures, those traveling through the affected areas are advised to factor in extra time for their journeys to accommodate potential backups and delays.

The centerpiece of this $1.9 million project, financed entirely with federal funds, includes a series of enhancements designed to improve overall roadway safety. Among the planned upgrades are minor widening efforts to create left turn lanes on U.S. 322, the replacement and installation of modern traffic signals and supports, updated signage, and refreshed pavement markings. These improvements target a reduction in vehicular crashes, particularly rear-end collisions that have been notably prevalent at the intersection during low-light conditions such as early morning or evening hours.

Brubacher Excavating, Inc., based in Bowmansville, PA, has been contracted to carry out the construction work. As with all outdoor projects, the timeline and schedule for these improvements remain subject to change based on weather conditions.
