PennDOT to Improve Stormwater Management on State Highways in Southeastern Pennsylvania

traffic alert expect delays

SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans for stormwater replacements on state highways in Bucks, Montgomery, and Chester counties next week. The work is part of a larger $14.9 million project to enhance stormwater management and facilities across more than 90 state highways in the five-county Philadelphia region.

The scheduled work will take place from Monday, December 18, through Friday, December 22, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The locations set for this operation include Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) between Swartley Road and Orvilla Road in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, and Hilltown Township, Bucks County. Additionally, work will occur on Route 29 (Morehall Road) between Atwater Drive and the Pennsylvania Turnpike in East Whiteland Township.

Drivers traveling these routes should anticipate backups and delays during the construction hours and are advised to allow extra time for their journeys. As is standard with outdoor operations, the schedule is dependent on weather conditions.

Highway Materials Inc., based in Flourtown, Montgomery County, is the general contractor overseeing this significant project. The initiative is entirely financed by state funds, reflecting Pennsylvania’s commitment to improving its infrastructure and enhancing road safety.

This stormwater management improvement effort will help to mitigate flooding risks and maintain the integrity of road surfaces. As such, residents and motorists are asked to exercise patience and caution when navigating the work zones during the specified times.
