ATGLEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the completion this week of a $3 million project to upgrade critical infrastructure on Route 372 (Lower Valley Road). Now, drivers can enjoy a smoother ride with improved safety and better traffic flow in the area.
The construction project involved replacing the outdated bridge that crossed Officers Run with a modern single-span, prestressed concrete composite adjacent box beam bridge. The new bridge replaces the existing two-span, reinforced concrete slab bridge that was originally built in 1937.
To ensure smooth travel for commuters, the project also included the realignment and restriping of the Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) painted median, as well as the replacement of the traffic signal at the Route 372 (Lower Valley Road) and Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) intersection.
Other project improvements included pipe culvert installation, aerial and underground gas utility relocations, and wetland enhancements. The result is a more resilient and efficient infrastructure that will benefit drivers and the environment for years to come.
“This project represents a significant investment in the transportation infrastructure in Chester County,” said a PennDOT spokesperson. “We appreciate drivers’ patience and understanding during the construction process, and we are confident that the completed project will enhance safety and mobility for the traveling public.”
While the major construction phase has now ended, the contractor will be performing minor activities to complete the project. There will be no impact on traffic during this stage.
The general contractor on the project is Mumford and Miller Concrete, Inc., of Middletown, DE. The project was financed with 100% federal funds, making this a valuable investment in the region’s transportation system.
