High Street Revamp: Major Safety Upgrades Set to Transform Traffic Flow!

Traffic Restrictions

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has outlined the continuation of a comprehensive roadway construction project aimed at enhancing safety and traffic flow along the Business U.S. 322 (High Street) corridor in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township, Chester County. This initiative is part of a strategic effort to modernize infrastructure and is scheduled to progress next week.

From Monday, September 30, through Friday, October 4, motorists can expect periodic lane closures with flagging operations to occur from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. These closures will be implemented on Business U.S. 322 (High Street) stretching from Linden Street to Lacey Street. Drivers are urged to allocate extra travel time when navigating these areas due to the anticipated traffic delays and backups. It is important to note that all construction activities are contingent upon favorable weather conditions.

This ambitious project encompasses a variety of enhancements. PennDOT plans to install new traffic signals at the intersections of University Avenue and Sharpless Street, which will include vital signal support and associated equipment. Additionally, retroreflective backplates will be added to existing signals, and intersections will be upgraded with modern LED luminaries and pedestrian countdown timers. The project also involves the introduction of curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, and improvements to drainage systems. A thorough full-depth pavement restoration will culminate in a complete resurfacing of the roadway.

Marino Corporation, based in Skippack, Pennsylvania, has been appointed as the general contractor for this undertaking. The initiative represents a significant investment, with a budget of $2,619,998, fully funded by federal resources. Physical construction is projected to reach completion by the winter of 2026.
