Man Arrested After Attempting to Steal Money from Church Donation Boxes

WESTTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — On Monday, April 20, Derrick C. Robinson was arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt Theft by Unlawful Taking, Criminal Mischief, and other related charges.

The morning of the incident, a Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Officer was on patrol in the area of the Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Westtown Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

The officer observed a suspicious vehicle in the church parking lot, and checked the interior of the church, locating the registered owner of the suspicious vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, Robinson fled on foot from the church property, police say. Assisting officers located the suspect in a shopping center just west of the church.

Police state Robinson attempted to steal money from the donation boxes in the church but was interrupted by the officer. Robinson was found to be in possession of a “fish tool,” believed to be the instrument of the alleged crime.

Robinson was released and charges have been filed via summons for the suspect to appear in front of Judge Martin G. Goch of District Court 15-2-03.
