COATESVILLE, PAFreedom Village at Brandywine hosted a Walk to End Alzheimer’s and raised $4,739 to support Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Freedom Village at Brandywine residents and staff, as well as community members, came together to support this cause for the first time this year – joining the hundreds of other communities participating in walks nationwide.

Freedom Village at Brandywine also made this event accessible to residents who may not have had the opportunity to participate otherwise. One Brandywine resident, Janet Kotary, said, “As a resident who has helped continuously promote this annual walk, I was ecstatic to see the community host it on campus for the first time. This gave all residents the ability to join the walk, even those who may have been limited by walking disability in the past.”

The community began their fundraising efforts before the walk. A homemade soup sale, ice cream social, t-shirt sale, and 50/50 raffle are just a few fundraising events that took place in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. Added donations from the walk and casual for a cause dress down days, which allowed staff to wear jeans on Fridays, combined for a grand total of $4,739. All proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.

“This walk represents everything this community is about, and I am so grateful that we were able to host it this year,” said Kim Ranck, Community Life Services Director of Freedom Village at Brandywine. “We are hopeful this will become an annual tradition here at Brandywine, as it is a cause near and dear to so many of us.”
