Wilmington Teen Caught Red-Handed in Theft Attempt in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Police Department announced the arrest of a 15-year-old juvenile from Wilmington, Delaware of theft charges.

The criminal complaint alleges that on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at approximately 8:32 AM, Officers responded to the 500 block of W Marshall St for a report of two juvenile-aged males attempting to break into vehicles. Officers surveyed the area and quickly caught the two juveniles red-handed as they were breaking into a Kia SUV in the driveway at 502 W Marshall St. Upon being told to cease and desist, the males fled on foot. While one of them was caught and identified as a 15-year-old Black male from Wilmington, DE, the other managed to evade the officers and disappear into the surroundings.

The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the West Chester Police Station. He was charged with Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft, along with other related charges. Currently, he is being held at the Chester County Youth Center, awaiting a preliminary hearing.
