West Chester Police Arrest Robbery Suspect Resisting Arrest

Arrested

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester Police Department announced the arrest of 33-year-old Michael Anderson on April 8, 2023, after he attempted to rob and steal multiple vehicles in the 100 block of W. Gay St.

According to the criminal complaint, at approximately 7:58 AM, police received multiple calls about a fight and a male attempting to enter locked vehicles in the 100 Block of W. Gay St. Officers arrived on the scene and encountered Anderson standing in the middle of the street.

Anderson had been driving west when he cut off another driver and blocked the street, making it impassable. He then allegedly attacked another driver, robbed him and stole pieces of property from that victim, and intentionally damaged it. He then approached another bystander standing near their vehicle and attempted to steal it as well.

Fortunately, officers were able to detain Anderson before any more damage could be done. However, while attempting to place Anderson in custody, he is reported to have physically resisted officers and later struck an officer in the face while being evaluated at Chester County Hospital.

Anderson was transported to Chester County Prison and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Iacocca who released Anderson on unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is pending at District Court 15-1-01.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
