West Chester Man Arrested After Assaulting His Mother

WEST CHESTER, PA — A West Chester man was arrested on November 24, 2022, after assaulting his mother.

According to the West Chester Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of W. Ashbridge Street for a report of an unconscious person from a fall. While en route, the call was upgraded to a possible cardiac arrest. The patient, Dorothy Giffing, was transported to Chester County Hospital with injuries inconsistent with a fall. Further investigation determined that 42-year-old Michael D. Giffing had assaulted his mother. He was placed into custody and transported to the police station for processing.

Gifting has been charged with the following crimes:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder in the First Degree
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person (
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Simple Assault

A preliminary hearing is pending at District Court 15-1-01.
