Three Men Sentenced for Repeated Illegal Reentry Into the U.S. After Deportations

Court News

PHILADELPHIA, PA — United States Attorney David Metcalf announced the sentencing of three men this week, each convicted of illegally reentering the United States after prior deportations.

Oscar Martinez Olmedo, 44, a Mexican national, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Kelley Brisbon Hodge. Olmedo was deported in December 2004 but illegally reentered the country and was arrested in February 2020 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, on multiple state charges involving controlled substances and firearms. After completing his state sentence in December 2024, Olmedo was taken into custody by ICE and pleaded guilty in February to federal charges of illegal reentry. He will be removed from the country again after serving his prison term.

Jimy Noe Meza-Hernandez, 37, a Honduran national, was sentenced to time served by U.S. District Judge John M. Younge on Tuesday, equating to nearly four months in custody. Previously deported in August 2012 after being detained by the U.S. Border Patrol in Texas, Meza-Hernandez illegally reentered the United States and was arrested in September 2024 in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Following a guilty plea to harassment charges, he was taken into custody by ICE earlier this year. He was indicted for illegal reentry in March and pleaded guilty this week. He will also be removed from the country.

Fredy Soriano Palestino, 32, a Mexican national, was sentenced to time served, roughly three months, on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Kai N. Scott. Soriano Palestino had been deported in December 2011 after being apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol in Arizona. Despite his removal, he returned illegally and was arrested in March 2025 in a misdemeanor case ultimately dismissed. ICE took him into custody shortly after and charged him with illegal reentry in April. He pleaded guilty and will again be deported following his sentencing.
