KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The Kennett Square Police Department announced that on Thursday, March 2, 2023, the Philadelphia Police Department had taken 51-year-old Byron Mordecai on Spring City, PA into custody for a warrant issued for him last month.

Authorities stated that on June 30, 2022, Kennett Square Police responded to reports from the Pennsylvania State Police Investigation Unit about an individual who failed the background check through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System. It was soon discovered that Mordecai had attempted to purchase firearms through a licensed firearms dealer located in Kennett Square Borough but is prohibited from acquiring a firearm.

The Kennett Square Police have transported Mordecai to the Chester County Prison for processing and arraignment. The warrant was issued in February of this year, and charges include the Sale or Transfer of Firearms and Unsworn Falsifications to Authorities.
