Police Respond to Swatting Call at Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School

Police News

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School was the target of a swatting call on Wednesday.

Authorities stated that on March 29, 2023, at 1:00 pm, the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department was dispatched to the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, located at 1332 Enterprise Dr in East Goshen Township following a report of a threat against the school.

After carrying out their investigation, officers determined the threat had been generated from a swatting call and that it was not credible. Moreover, many other departments across Pennsylvania were notified about similar swatting calls.

Swatting is an alarming prank call crime that has been on the rise in recent years. It occurs when someone calls 911 making false reports of serious emergencies, such as violence, drugs, or hostage situations.

Swatting calls made with malicious intent can draw heavily armed response teams from law enforcement to the location given on the call. These fake emergency calls can be extremely dangerous for both civilians and officers alike, as responding to a false emergency can put them in harm’s way unnecessarily.
