Man Arrested For Attempting to Purchase Firearm Illegally

Arrest

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department say they have arrested James Dennis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for attempting to purchase a firearm from a Federal Firearms Dealer.

Authorities stated that the attempted purchase was declined by the Pennsylvania Instant Checks System, overseen by the Pennsylvania State Police, after finding that Dennis is a person prohibited from possessing or owning a firearm. This is another example of how the instant checks system helps to keep firearms out of the hands of those who should not have them.

The investigation began on November 14, 2022, in East Goshen Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania after the attempted purchase of a firearm was reported. On November 27, police arrested 58-year-old James Dennis for his involvement in the illegal transaction.

The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department is reminding all members of the public that attempting to purchase a firearm illegally is a serious crime that carries significant penalties. Anyone with information about illegal firearm purchases is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
