WEST CHESTER, PA — On Monday, a jury found Darrel Singletary, age 55, of Coatesville, guilty of simple assault and harassment, announced the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.

Evidence presented during the trial showed that the defendant punched his 59-year-old girlfriend’s face during an argument on the sidewalk in the 700 block of East Lincoln Hwy on September 25, 2021. An off-duty Coatesville police officer witnessed the assault, which caused the victim to stumble backward and hit her head on a stone wall.

“Domestic violence discriminates against no one. It happens across all socio-economic levels, to all races, in private behind closed doors or outside on a public sidewalk,” Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan. “With this case coming during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it’s a good reminder for everyone to seek help for themselves or someone you know who may be a victim. This victim’s courage in pursuing justice is an example to others in similar situations.”

District Attorney Ryan commended the Coatesville Police Department for the investigation which led to the successful prosecution of Singletary. Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Wright prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
