TOUGHKENAMON, PA — The Southern Chester County Regional Police Department announced the arrest of 38-year-old Michael A. Watson of Boothwyn who is charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and additional offenses.

Authorities say that the incident occurred on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 9:33 p.m., in the 1200 block of Newark Road, in New Garden Township.  The vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed and was observed to have front-end damage, including a missing tire.  A traffic stop was attempted but the vehicle fled through the intersection, a business parking lot and the opposing lane of traffic before coming to a stop at 1211 Newark Road.  Watson was ordered from the car, told to empty his hands but failed to comply with all other commands.  As an officer attempted to place Watson into custody, he struck the officer in the face with a closed fist and continued to actively resist.  Deployment of the taser was necessary to get Watson into custody. Watson continually threatened to shoot and kill officers throughout the entire encounter.  A search incident to arrest located suspected marijuana in his jacket.
