COCHRANVILLE, PA — State Police from the Avondale Barracks are investigating a scam where the victim was prompted to send gift cards to resolve a claimed bank error.
Authorities state that on December 14, 2021, the 74-year-old male victim from Cochranville, Chester County reported he was contacted by an unknown person via the telephone. The unknown person related that an error had occurred with the victim’s bank account and requested gift cards from Target, Apple, and Macey’s to resolve the problem. Over an 8 day period, the victim purchased several gift cards with an approximate value of $30,000.00. The victim then provided the gift card numbers to the unknown person. This investigation is ongoing.
