WEST CHESTER, PA — Employees from Keystone Volvo stopped by the West Chester Area School District (WCASD) on October 22, delivering 282 brand new winter coats for the annual Driving Away the Cold campaign. WCASD caseworkers sorted the different sizes and colors to prepare them for distribution to economically disadvantaged students in the 17 schools in the district.

According to Patricia Alston, WCASD social worker coordinator, out of the nearly 12,000 students in the district, almost 13 percent are considered economically disadvantaged. “Not having life’s basic necessities can affect a student’s ability to arrive at school, ready to learn. No child in our community, or any community, should be without the basics. We are so fortunate to be able to be to partner with Keystone Volvo again.”

“Our fantastic coat distribution partners ensure that the new coats land exactly where they need to,” said Mary Lynn Alvarino, director of operations for the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation. “This has turned into a full-blown community initiative. It’s really a concerted team effort and awe inspiring.”

Driving Away the Cold is coordinated by the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation. Approximately 177 Greater Philadelphia auto dealers are involved with the initiative. The initiative is now in its 14th year.
