PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that construction will reduce southbound Columbus Boulevard to a single lane at Penn’s Landing for about one year, starting next week.
Beginning Monday, July 15, through mid-2025, southbound Columbus Boulevard will be reduced from three lanes to two between Race Street and Market Street. Further south, it will narrow to a single lane between Market Street and Walnut Street. These closures will allow crews to relocate a sewer line and construct foundations for a pier supporting the Interstate 95 CAP project.
The $329 million project aims to replace and expand the covered area over I-95 in Center City Philadelphia.
Currently, northbound Columbus Boulevard is already reduced to two lanes on weekdays between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM due to utility construction in the same location.
Motorists should anticipate significant backups and delays on southbound Columbus Boulevard, with potential spillover effects on southbound Delaware Avenue approaching Penn’s Landing. Drivers are urged to plan extra travel time and exercise caution through the work zone.
