WILMINGTON, DE — The holiday season is upon us, and Wilmington’s Mayor Mike Purzycki and Cultural Affairs Director Tina Betz are extending an open invitation to the city’s most anticipated festive event – the Light Up the Square tree-lighting celebration. This beloved holiday tradition makes its return on Tuesday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m. in Rodney Square, located at 10th and Market Streets.

The public is urged to join in the festivities which include singing traditional holiday songs in unison. Live performances will be delivered by the 287th Army Band, Jea Street Jr., Rachel Schain, Orisha Watson, among others, promising a night of enchanting melodies and cheer.

Adding to the holiday magic, Santa Claus and his trusty reindeer Rudolph will make a special appearance, much to the delight of the young and old alike. Attendees can also look forward to FREE food, a children’s book giveaway, and face painting, ensuring a fun-filled evening for the entire family.

Before the main event, DE.CO Food Hall, situated at 111 West 10th Street, is set to host a festive pre-party beginning at 4:30 p.m. Patrons can indulge in food and drink specials while enjoying live music by the talented Son of Sinatra.

Light Up the Square owes its success to the collaborative efforts of Cityfest, Inc., Downtown Visions, Spark’d Creative Pastry, and DE.CO.
