Wilmington Police Make Arrest in 2018 Murder

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police announced that an investigation has resulted in the indictment of 23-year-old Nasir Anderson in connection with a 2018 murder.

Authorities stated that on February 25, 2018, at approximately 9:24 a.m., Wilmington Police responded to the 2300 block of North Market Street in reference to a shooting incident that had occurred. Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim – 38-year-old Richard Young – who had succumbed to his injuries. The case was assigned to Detective Mary Quinn of the Criminal Investigations Division.

The investigation continued, and the efforts of Detective Mary Quinn and the Cold Case Unit – including Cold Case Investigator Steven Rizzo and Detective Devon Jones – led to the identification of 23-year-old Nasir Anderson as a suspect. The case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury on February 13, and an indictment was returned for Anderson.

Police were able to take 23-year-old Nasir Anderson into custody on February 14, following a pedestrian stop.

He has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Murder (First Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Three Counts
  • Home Invasion
  • Robbery (First Degree)
  • Conspiracy (Second Degree)
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,303,000 cash-only bail.
