Wilmington Police Arrest Suspect for Package Thefts

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police announced the arrest of 43-year-old Jose Colon in connection with multiple package theft incidents.

Authorities stated that on March 7 at approximately 1:40 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Stapler Place in reference to the theft of multiple packages. Officers were dispatched a short time later to the 1500 block of North Van Buren Street in reference to another package theft incident. Through further investigation, police were able to identify a suspect, and officers located that suspect – 43-year-old Jose Colon – in the 1100 block of Adams Street. Colon fled on foot but was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, and officers recovered stolen property.

Colon was also able to be identified as a suspect in connection with a package theft that occurred on February 10 at approximately 11:54 a.m. in the 1900 block of Shallcross Avenue.

Colon has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Theft Under $1,500 – Three Counts

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was given $4,000 unsecured bail. Colon was found to be wanted on an unrelated matter, and was subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.
