WAWA, PA — In honor of Veterans Day, convenience store chain Wawa, Inc. has announced a series of initiatives aimed at supporting veterans, active military members, and their families. On November 11, 2023, all Wawa stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, D.C., and Florida will offer free hot coffee of any size to veterans, active military service members, and their families. The gesture requires no military ID and is part of the company’s annual tradition of expressing gratitude to those who serve.
Chris Gheysens, CEO of Wawa, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “It’s our annual tradition to salute service members on Veterans Day with a hot cup of coffee to thank them for everything they do to serve our country and our communities.”
Beyond the generous coffee offer, Wawa has also been involved in a 13-year tradition known as Operation Taste of Home. Collaborating with the USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey and USO Central Florida, Wawa Associates and Pennsylvania National Guard members have assembled and sent over 10,000 care packages to military service members abroad this November. These packages are designed to provide a comforting taste of home to those serving overseas.
Additionally, The Wawa Foundation presented a check for $1,020,174.62 to the USO. This substantial amount was raised through in-store coin and scan campaigns held at every Wawa store during the summer of 2023. The funds will be allocated to programs that support military service members and their families and will be distributed to local USO chapters throughout Wawa’s operating area. Since 2012, The Wawa Foundation has raised over $10.8 million to support USO programs and services that help keep service members connected to family, home, and country.
Wawa’s commitment to supporting military service members extends beyond these initiatives. Over the years, the company has sent thousands of cups of coffee and care packages to military service members overseas who have reached out with requests.
These gestures from Wawa aim to serve as a testament to their appreciation for the brave men and women who serve our country. As we honor veterans this November, it’s heartening to see companies like Wawa showing their support in such tangible and meaningful ways.
